When the Pictures Came unveiled the Chinese Culture Year in Tasmania

When the Pictures Came, a collaboration between Terrapin and the Children's Art Theatre of China in association with the lakeside Arts Center, Nottingham UK, and Reckless Moments, returned to its hometown Hobart after its premiere in Shanghai 2010 and a successful presentation in Adelaide Children's Festival 2011.

Mr. Shi Weiqiang, the consul general of People's Republic of China in Melbourne, attended the opening night of When the Pictures Came, together with the mayor of Hobart, Mr. Rob.H.F.Valentine, Chairman of Terrapin Mr.Stephen Wicks, general manager of Terrapin, Mr. Kevin O’Loghlin, and 400 local audiences. Mr. Shi Weiqiang said that When the Pictures Came launched the Chinese Culture Year in Tasmania and encouraged local people to bring more cultural exchange programs like this to Tasmania.

When The Pictures Came was created by a team composed of both Chinese and Australian artists, along with an English composer. The performers and puppeteers are also from both countries. It integrated different cultures and traditions and produced a unique aesthetic experience for audiences.
