Rio Tinto is proud to support the Year of Chinese Culture in Australia.
Through our involvement with the Australian Pavilion at Shanghai Expo we enjoyed the warm welcome and enthusiastic support of the Chinese people during the Year of Australian Culture in China.
We look forward to reciprocating that welcome while enjoying a spectacular range of Chinese cultural events in Australia over the next year.
In connection with our business we have spoken much about the concept of partnership with China as the key to a long and harmonious relationship. The success of any such relationship is based on mutual respect and understanding, both of which will be strengthened by this cultural exchange.
China is now Australia’s most important trading partner, and Australia in turn supplies China with many of the services and materials that have helped fuel its spectacular growth over the past 30 years. Australia is also home to many generations of Chinese migrants, who have become an integral part of its social fabric.
This interdependence can be a great source of mutual prosperity for both Australia and China, the sustainability of which will be enhanced by open communication and a deeper understanding of one another. By supporting the Year of Chinese Culture in Australia we hope to contribute to this ongoing process, and to build upon the long and successful relationship between Rio Tinto, China and Australia.
With best wishes for both the Year of the Rabbit and the Year of Chinese Culture in Australia.
