The Year of Chinese Culture Kicks Off in Canberra
February 10, 2011, Canberra. Experience China — The Year of Chinese Culture in Australia was officially kicked off on February 10 at the Chinese Embassy in Canberra.

Australian Minister for the Arts Mr. Simon Crean and the Deputy Leader of the Australian Opposition Party Ms Julie Bishop joined the Chinese Ambassador to Australia Mr. Chen Yuming, to light a crystal ball of the cultural year.

Australian Prime Minister Ms Julia Gillard sent a congratulatory message to the inaugural event.

Mr Harry Jenkins, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia, along with some 2000 other guests witnessed the official launch of the cultural year.

A performance by the artists from Hubei Youth Arts Troupe and Chang'an Hejiaying Drum Corps was also held on the occasion.
